BA’s loyalty shake-up: what agents need to know

From 1 April 2025, British Airways is overhauling its loyalty programme, the Executive Club, rebranding it as ‘The British Airways Club’ and moving to a revenue-based model.

Under the new system, members will earn tier points based on spend rather than the journey or fare class booked. For every GBP1 (R23) spent on eligible BA flights, members will earn one tier point.

One of the biggest changes is that members will be able to earn Tier Points on more than just flights.Additional expenses such as seat selection, excess baggage and even sustainable aviation fuel contributions will also earn points.

Focus on costs

The new system prioritizes spending on distance flown, and as such, frequent fliers who typically book economy class on long-haul routes may find it more difficult to earn higher-level status.

BA corporate customer said Travel news that changes are likely to affect how he chooses to fly. “I have been a loyal BA member for years. This change will affect how I spend in the British Airways ecosystem; it looks like it will be more difficult to maintain level status now.”

According to the BA website, the Tier Point collection period will start on April 1 and end on March 31 each year.

Travel news He talked about the change with the spokesperson of BA.

“Executive Club changes will apply to every member worldwide. Our press release refers to GBP. For ZAR and other currencies, the airfare is converted to GBP in the background using the IATA exchange rates at the time of booking, then it is £1=1 Tier Point based on the converted amount.

Eligible costs include the base fare and carrier-imposed charges (YQ and YR), but not non-airline taxes and fees.

“There were some inaccuracies in the reporting of this change, particularly in juxtaposing the current and new thresholds. Members will earn differently under the new model, which is completely incomparable to the old model.”

New level status requirements

Bronze: 3,500 level points

Silver: 7,500 level points
