ATNS-related disruption hits George | Travel News

FlySafair and Airlink flights to and from George on 12 January have been delayed and canceled due to the ongoing suspension of Instrument Landing System (ILS) take-off procedures for the airport’s runway 11.

Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) has notified airlines and passengers that George Airport is experiencing flight disruptions due to severe weather conditions including rain, strong winds and low cloud cover.

ATNS has confirmed that the ILS on Runway 11 is still under maintenance.

On January 12, FlySafair had to cancel 10 flights. “These cancellations are a direct result of the suspension procedures caused by ATNS not renewing the necessary permits in time. Although the circumstances are beyond our control, we have taken quick steps to mitigate inconvenience by adding additional flights and offering support to affected customers,” FlySafair said in a statement.

By: Mphilo DlaminiHead of Corporate Affairs and Communications, ATNS Headquarters, George Airport, the delay in the approval of the ILS flight procedure for runway 11 is being resolved.

“I am pleased to announce that the necessary surveys are being completed by the airport and ATNS will soon receive the necessary permits,” Dlamini said, adding that no firm date could be confirmed at this stage.
